Self-drilling screws are very similar to self-tapping screws, however self-drilling screws have the added feature of a drill point end. Self-drilling screws eliminate the need for a pre-drilled pilot hole as they perform the drilling, tapping and fastening in one action. The hardened steel fixings are generally used when fixing metal to metal or metal to timber.

Self-drilling screws are traditionally used where an application requires regular maintenance and regular easy access. These screws are useful in situations where products must be assembled and disassembled, such as access panels or even furniture.

These self-drilling screws are made from BZP (Bright Zinc Plating) galvanised steel, which is one of the most common finishes for the majority of fixings. This thin layer offers galvanising protection to the steel, preventing rust and oxidation except in outdoor environments.
