From Microchip the USB5734 is a 3.0 compliant (also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1) and supports all the defined USB speeds up to the 5 Gbps SuperSpeed (SS) data rate on all enabled downstream ports. The device integrates a USB 2.0 controller to decouple SuperSpeed data from slower USB 2.0 traffic to avoid bottlenecks slower USB 2.0 traffic can create.The USB5734 integrates functions that would typically be associated with a separate MCU or processor; as such Microchip classifies this device as a Smart Hub . For example the device can communicate to peripherals via I2C, SPI, GPIOs or UART in addition to USB. Also a downstream device can take control of the host system by swapping roles to become the host port, with the Smart Hub switching between two different hosts if required.
