What's the difference between a single-acting cylinder and a double-acting cylinder?

A single-acting cylinder has only one port and pushes compressed air in one direction only. Its piston is returned to the start position by a spring. A double-acting cylinder has a port at each end, allowing the piston to move in both directions. As single-acting cylinders consume less air, they're more energy-efficient than double-acting cylinders.
