The nickel-plated crocodile clips with brass jaws with PP insulated covered bodies and handles, and are available in both red (see stock number: 2121204) and black (see stock number: 2121203). Crocodile clips are ideal for attaching onto wires or cables to create an electrical connector. The clip is attached to components and establishes a connection between the two. As it is a clip, it will clamp down, which frees up the user’s hands from holding the connector.

Applications

Crocodile clips (also alligator clips) are common accessories used to create flexible, temporary or experimental electrical connections in industrial settings or laboratories. For example, this could be between two wires or between an electrical lead and the anode or cathode of a device (i.e. the entrance and exit points of an electrical current).
Crocodile clips are also frequently used in education to demonstrate the function of batteries, bulbs or circuits. Larger crocodile clips are often used in garages and car maintenance, where they are used with battery chargers, booster cables and jump leads or for welding operations, where they can also usefully absorb excess heat.

Are Crocodile clips the same as Alligator clips?

Alligator clips and Crocodile clips are the same accessories, using either term is correct, and most people will know what you are talking about if you use either term.

How do crocodile clips work?

A crocodile clip (also alligator clip) is a sprung metal clip with long, serrated jaws which is used for creating a temporary electrical connection. Functioning much like a spring-loaded clothespin, the clip's tapered, serrated jaws are forced together by a spring to grip an object.
