HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and works by using TDMS (transition-minimized differential signalling). One of the many wires carries the signal itself and another wire carries the inverse. Once the signals have reached the TV, the TV decodes the signal. Then, using the difference between the original signal and the inverse, the TV compensates for any loss of information that may have happened along the way.
