1250-Piece Stainless Steel Countersunk & Round Head Woodscrew Kit
From the trusted professional brand, RS PRO, this 1250-piece woodscrew kit includes stainless steel screws of various sizes with either countersunk or round screw heads and either slotted or cross-recessed Pozidriv drives. These woodscrews are twin-threaded and feature tapered bodies and pointed ends to help them cut their own thread. A pilot hole may be required to help guide the screw into place, especially with longer screws, but this will depend on the application and the material.
In this kit, there are 310 round head screws with slotted and cross-recessed Pozidriv drives and 940 countersunk screws with slotted and cross-recessed Pozidriv drives, with lengths ranging from 20mm to 65mm. Both types of screws come in thread sizes of No. 6, No. 8 and No. 10.
Features and Benefits
- Twin-threaded screws for faster insertion and removal
- A2 stainless steel
- Tapered body and pointed tip helps these screws to cut their own thread as they are inserted, resulting in a tighter fit and therefore a stronger join.
- Provided in a moulded plastic storage case.
Applications
As the name suggests, woodscrews are used specifically for wooden applications and can be used in wooden materials such as MDF, chipboard, hardwood and softwood. The impressive strength of A2 stainless steels makes it a versatile component material that can withstand wear and tear. They can be used alongside wood glue to create an incredibly strong bond. Screws are also used where the expansion and contraction of the wood can be an issue, holding it in place. Applications for woodscrews include:
- Joinery projects
- Wooden cabinet and furniture assembly
- Mounting hardware
- Trims
Frequently Asked Questions
What type of woodscrews should I use?
Woodscrews can come in fully or partially threaded varieties, but all of them feature pointed ends and threads that can penetrate even the hardest wood types. The strength required to support the weight of the application may affect the type of screw that is best for your application, so make sure you know exactly what you will need.
Steel screws are considered the best for woodworking and interior DIY due to their strength and versatility, but there are also bronze silicone, brass and stainless steel varieties, among others. The environment of the application should always be considered, as brass screws will tarnish under weather conditions.
Do I need to create pilot holes for woodscrews?
It is recommended that appropriately-sized pilot holes are driven before fitting screws, as this will stop the wood from splitting or cracking when the screw is inserted. This is especially important when inserting screws into complexly structured woods, such as oak.
Pilot holes will guide the screws into position and will also remove the risk of the screw breaking under high levels of pressure.
