Eaton Bussmann Quick Acting (F) HBC Cartridge Fuses - Ceramic 5x20mm
This range of cylindrical ceramic fuses from Eaton Bussmann is the perfect solution for short-circuit protection of semiconductors such as thyristors, diodes and triacs. Available in a range of current ratings with varying resistance values, these cartridge fuses are reliable and suitable for a variety of applications. Note that for fuses with a current rating greater than 6.3A, using open type fuse holders is recommended to reduce the risk of nuisance tripping at or near full rated current.
Why choose ceramic cartridge fuse?
Ceramic and glass cartridge fuses have similar properties. The capacity of a ceramic cartridge fuse is higher than other fuses such as a glass fuse. This means ceramic fuses can be used in circuits that have a higher current and are perfect for protecting against overheating.
What size is it?
5 mm x 20 mm is a standard cartridge size and it measures approximately 20 mm long by 5 mm in diameter. They are popular in board and panel protection and will fit a compatible 5 x 20 mm fuse holder.
What Speed is it?
This particular fuse is type ''F'' speed-rated which means a fast-acting fuse. These are designed to protect less sensitive components and are also used to protect the cabling from melting or catching fire when an overload appear. Every fast-acting fuse will have the exact speed stated which will be relevant to different overloads.
What voltage is it?
These cartridge fuses are available with 40 mA to 10 Amp current ratings for applications where the system voltage rating is 250 Volts AC.
What is an over-current?
It is a setting where a circuit experiences a current that is higher than the normal operating current.
What is Breaking Capacity?
Breaking capacity is the level of current that the fuse can safely handle without exploding or rupturing. The breaking capacity of your fuse should be greater than the fault current of your electronic circuit. This particular cartridge fuse is HBC (High Breaking Capacity).
What are cartridge fuses used for?
• For the protection of components and equipment from costly damage used by over-current
• To isolate sub-systems from the main system once a fault has appeared
Eaton Ceramic Cartridge Fuse, 2A, F Speed S501-2-R
Use this Eaton fuse to protect your electrical components. This device can prevent your appliances from being damaged by excessive heat and fire caused by a sudden spike in current. This means that if the fuse is exposed to an overcurrent exceeding 2A, it will blow and disconnect the electrical supply.
A plug-top fuse such as this one is ideally suited for use with appliances such as radios, fridge freezers or hair clippers that run off an AC power supply up to 250V.
Features & Benefits
• F speed rating means the fuse responds quickly in the event of a fault to protect equipment
• Ceramic body absorbs damaging heat effects of overcurrent or shortcircuit
• Wide operating temperature range (-5°C to +35°C), so suitable for industrial environments
• Will isolate subsystems from main systems to prevent damage
What does current ’overload’ mean?
A current overload is when there's more current running through a circuit than the normal or rated current considered suitable for it. Overload is the overcurrent flow in a circuit that causes overheating in connected devices, so overload is a type of overcurrent.
Note
Eaton formerly known as Bussmann
Approvals
UL, SEMKO, VDE
Very high breaking capacity
Good mechanical/vibration characteristics
Typical Applications include short-circuit protection of semiconductors such as thyristors, diodes and triacs.
Note that with values of greater than 6.3A the use of open type fuseholders is recommended, to reduce the risk of nuisance tripping at or near full rated current.
