Optimise your machine guard and ensure maximum protection for operators with the 440G-MT47016 Solenoid Interlock Switch by Allen Bradley Guardmaster. This guard-locking unit is a positive mode, tongue operated safety interlock switch designed specifically for use with machine safety barriers. The 440G-MT family are heavy-duty safety switches which are best suited for use with machinery which does not immediately stop when the power supply is removed, or which could be damaged by interference while in motion.

This dependable, cost-effective switch ensures that the guard can only open when a signal is applied to the internal solenoid, which then releases the lock mechanism. When the barrier is open power to the machine is isolated so that dangerous processes cannot run while personnel have physical access. This minimises the risk of downtime and injury to machine operators. It has an excellent IP67 rating, which ensures that it is highly suitable for use in wet environments with regular washdowns. It can withstand temporary immersion in water and is also dust-tight.

The 440G-MT47016 safety interlock switch is Power-to-Release with M20 conduit entry. It has 3NC safety contacts and 1NO auxiliary contact. It also has a high holding force of 1500N (337 lbs), providing essential stability and reliability for the machine safety guard. The solenoid voltage is 230 V ac/dc, and the solenoid power is 13W typical 100% ED. It offers superior durability due to its housing material, which is made of robust painted die-cast zinc alloy, in red. This enables it to be used in harsh environments. This unit has Break-Before-Make action. It also has an operating temperature range of -25 to +60°C (13 to+140°F) and a minimum operating radius of 60mm.

How do Solenoid Interlock Switches work?

Solenoid interlock switches work by having their internal solenoid energised (Power to Release) or de-energised (Power to Lock) by an external signal. The solenoid is a wire coil which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. These types of safety switches are often used in industrial environments on machine guards to monitor the barrier status and limit unsafe access to hazardous equipment. They ensure that safety barriers remain securely locked while dangerous processes are running. They are useful with machinery that does not instantly stop, such as high inertia rotating machines.
