3M™ Performance Plus Duct Tape 8979 has a unique construction that allows for both permanent and temporary applications indoor and outdoor. It is removable with little or no adhesive residue from most opaque surfaces up to 6 months after application.

Constructed of polyethylene film laminated to cloth, backed by a rubber adhesive, this tape conforms to irregular and curved surfaces, resists curling, and tears off the roll cleanly for ease in application. It is an excellent choice for containment operations, where it provides a tight seal for attaching poly draping and closing cuffs. This Performance Plus Duct Tape 8979 was tested according to UL723, ASTM E84. The tape can be used at temperatures up to 200 degrees F.Originally developed for heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) applications, duct tape is used today in a variety of maintenance, repair and construction settings. It's best to use this tape within 18 months from the date of manufacture, to obtain the best performance.

What is the difference between duct tape, gaffer tape and cloth-backed tape?

The very common and versatile duct tape and gaffa tapes are both types of cloth-backed tape, though they are different in their adhesive and type of backing. Gaffer tape, for example, is a fabric material that is heat resistant and non-reflective with an adhesive that does not leave marks when removed from the surface, and so is suited to temporary applications. As such, it is ideal for theatre and studio applications where subtly, versatility and reliability are needed. Duct tape is a broad term that includes many different steps of material and adhesive, but are typically characterized by a polyethylene film and a rubber-based adhesive. What are the types of backing materials for cloth tapes?

There are many backing materials available on cloth tapes:
